I must admit, I have a slight obsession with cleansers - there's something so alluring about scrubbing the dirt and grime off your face and revealing beautiful, clear, clean skin! Well, that's the perfect ideal at least...*sigh* If there's a face wash out there that has some gimmick to it, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be rushing off to the nearest health and beauty store to get it.
Neutrogena seems to understand obsessed beauty addicts like me and released a whole range dedicated to the bittersweet pink grapefruit. So when I saw the sweet and bubbly Vanessa Hudgens (back when she was spokesmodel for the brand) advertising this even sweeter looking face wash, I thought to myself, "I have to have it, NOW!

The image above showcases the entire Pink Grapefruit range which includes a daily scrub, facial cleanser, cream cleanser and moisturiser. I haven't seen the cream cleanser or moisturiser in South African stores yet, so you'd probably have to buy them online. Interesting to note: the Pink Grapefruit products in South Africa and the UK are called Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit, whereas the products listed on the US site are labelled Oil Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit. After much research and head scratching, I discovered that the range has different labels in different countries but are essentially the same thing.
The product I'm reviewing is the Daily Scrub! It retails for approximately ZAR 59,99 (I bought mine on special at Clicks) and is widely available at health and beauty stores. It comes in a pretty pink 150ml squeeze bottle with a flip-top cap and has a very refreshing bitter-sweet grapefruit scent.
The actual scrub is a light pink gel PACKED with ultra fine granules.

What does this product claim to do?
The Visibly Clear line (or Oil Free Acne Wash as it's known in the US) is specifically designed for oily, acne prone skin. The information at the back of the Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub states that it uses "MicroClear technology" and has "exfoliating micro-beads". Basically, this scrub uses salicylic acid and lactic acid, among other spot-busting ingredients, to help combat acne, and micro-beads to unclog pores and decongest skin. It is supposed to be gentle enough to use AM and PM yet effective enough to control those pesky spots.
So, what's my verdict?
I gotta say, I really like the Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub. The scent is quite refreshing and actually mood-boosting too. It works well for people with oily skin as it really scrubs skin clean. During summer, when my face turns into an oil-slick that would make even oil tankers jealous, this is my "go to" face wash, especially after a long and tiring day. The tiny micro-beads do a great job at scrubbing and you can actually feel them sloughing off the dirt and dead skin. This scrub can be a tad bit drying at times, so a good moisturiser is essential. As for acne? Although it didn't do much for blackheads, this scrub helps keep those pesky whiteheads at bay.
However, don't expect miracles if you suffer with moderate to severe acne. Also, if you have dry, delicate or sensitive skin, you might want to skip this scrub as it can be quite drying and harsh on your skin, which may cause flaking, stinging and burning. That's why I switch to something gentle during the dry winter season. It's very effective for oily skin and if you have white heads.
All in all, it's a great product for troublesome skin- the smell and pink colour is just an added bonus!
Why just 4 stars? I've decided to minus one because this scrub can be a bit over-drying at times. I'll still repurchase though!
